There is one misconception about  Japanese gardens, they are not miniature landscapes-Miniature implies merely a smaller version of something

The most significant idea that should be understood is the Buddhist idea that the whole of the universe is contained even in its smallest part

This principle is a guiding beacon in Oriental philosophy and creative process
Consequently a Japanese Garden, in effect, encompasses all of nature

It acts as a summation of nature-of its parts, of its binding energies-           
Not a reduction of it
