Water Basins

Water basins originated in ancient shrines and temples and later developed for use in tea gardens

They have been used since ancient times for visitors to rinse their mouths and wash their hands in an act of purification prior to entering the shrine or temple
                                                                                 
                                                                                 

The act of humility and purification produced the cleansing of both mind and body considered necessary before partaking of the tea ceremony
